Way back then, I think I was liking Aquatic Park that week because I had other business in the city which gave me the chance to walk around that neighborhood. I still like the GGP map in her dress, but these days I am more attached to the Sutro Heights area, which is a giant step up from that old giant totem pole. I do like that photo of the tunnel entrance, but every tunnel entrance around SF (if not the world) has an arch to match the painting's door. Since 2004 we also have external hints for "sounds from the sky" and wooden posts, and i'm too old now to be digging up the countryside and climbing stairs. I'm following the threads and waiting for the day when someone finds the SF casque, either thru determination or stumbling upon it. Either way, I hope to still be mobile enough to join the locals for a celebration.
p.s. about the final dig spot and image confirmers, I'm only certain that the daughters said one could see all of the details in the painting from the New York location; we shouldn't extrapolate a solid rule for the rest.
Well said catherwood. I’m liking Sutro Heights as well.
Ouch! Now I feel like I got kicked in the pearls.
Not saying that 16 years of debate was a waste of effort, just saying that aquatic park area withheld the test of time as to still being viable and not disproven as the location. Take the Boston one after the same amount of time the leading theory of the Back Bay area couldn't have been more off the mark. I have no idea how many hours I spent trying to figure out how we were supposed to get from the Museum in the North End to the Back Bay area; as it turns out we weren't supposed to leave the North End at all.
Preiss himself said that he thought they were easy and all would be found in a short amount of time. This makes me think the most obvious solution is the correction one.
I agree that any tunnel entrance will likely look like the one in the image, but I also didn't mention that. But I do want to point out that the jewel is the Pearl. The moons could be a reflection of that. That this painting is very vertical, visually speaking. And at the top of the mountain in the image is the largest moon. This possibly suggests the jewel/pearl is physically above said stonewall's door.
As for the Sounds from the sky and high posts are three Japanese explanations. The Aquatic cove area still fits the clues just fine. (wooden posts, radio signal)
As for the Pleat of the dress being GGP, it is the rectangular shape for sure, but the iconic winding section of Lombardi street is a way better fit for the rectangular pleat plus its winding dragon.
I also agree with 'it was the daughters that said that you can see all the clues from the spot'. Were they in the know about the NY casque or speaking about all of them in general, or just speaking to what they think they knew? IDK but the Cleveland and Boston casques seemed to pretty much work that way but not Chicago, and doesn't seem that the Milwaukee or Roanoke ones work that way either. So I feel the San Fran one could go either way.
I don't know where the casque is or isn't, but this area still has a lot going for it. I too hope to see the San Francisco casque as well as the others found even if it isn't me.
I think with most of these locations, the at home hunter isn't going to be able to exactly pin point it down. It takes actual boots on the ground.
The one thing I don't like about the Fort Mason/Aquatic Park is the match for the brick work of the dragon's scale. If anyone that lives in the area has an insights, can you post?
