I think you are confusing image number and month/time/flower/jewel indicated number.
Image 7 for example is midnight (full moon) or noon (maybe). So you can go by the shadow of the full moon or noon shadow which means right below the structure.

You are correct. That should have read something like this: …good news for the Images for 6, 7, 8, 9, maybe 10 o’clock… and the Images for 2 and 3 o’clock. However, this theory may not work so well for 11, 12, and 1 o’clock.

However, this theory may not work so well for 11, 12, and 1 o’clock.

There are lots of problems with this theory, but I don't think this is one of them. If it holds true, then I would expect to find the casque at or very near the object in New York (11), New Orleans (12), and Roanoke (1). And since shadows in the northern hemisphere never point south, that alone eliminates half of the search area. So, for example, in Roanoke where the instruction may be "under that which may be last touched or first seen standing", we would dig on the NE side of whatever that is since that's the way post-meridiem shadows point, generally speaking.

Zodiacs and clocks could lead to a shadow theory, for example. So far, I'm skeptical that every location will have a sundial, but maybe one does.

For the San Francisco theory, i am not the first person to ask, "6:00 AM or PM? " How about taping together 10 yardsticks and make an improvised 30-foot pole, rather than digitizing a totem pole? (btw, they never specified which height they were going for, as the remains in the museum might have been trimmed over time.) Lastly, did they not contact someone who already dug around there, to ask about the underground irrigation pipes?

An article with the D&D pair says their shadow method works for Cleveland and Chicago, but I'm not sure I see the proof.

RE image 1: Since the shadow of the clock is pointing to W on the table then it may be 6AM. The image should be mirrored. Digitizing the pole clearly is not necessary but is consistent with his style of other shows; all razzle dazzle and showmanship. I think I heard him saying they went with 26 1/2 foot height after recreating the original rotted base.
Another thing Whites kept mentioning; "off by one inch, off by a mile". Where do they come up with these stuff! Shadow cast at that time of day seemed to be away about 3 times the height of the pole. So off 1 inch the shadow would be off 3 inches. And it seemed to me they probed a wide area there.

There have been many discussions on when the casques were buried. More specifically, the time of day. Seems as though the consensus is that they were buried during the hours of darkness due to Preiss trying to be incognito. He does mention in the St. Louis Dispatch article on how he was nearly caught by police at one point while burying one, having to hide in a pile of leaves. This doesn't necessarily say what time of day. One can only infer. If this is the case, I personally do not believe the shadows cast by sunlight indicate a precise digging location. The shadows in the images might indicate this though. Maybe the Chicago or Cleveland guys had a discussion with Preiss about how / when the casques were buried.

That is not really a problem. One could simply observe the shadow placement at a specific time of day, place some sort of marker (rock, flag, anything) and then come back later that night to actually bury the treasure. Easy peasy.

And, if we are correct in thinking the treasure is buried at the end of a shadow, a more interesting part of this method would mean that he may have had to work backwards to create the verse. So, it would be: Observe shadow, bury treasure (now or come back later), then look around to see what landmarks will help guide the treasure seekers, jot down some notes for the verse, take photos for JJP, and go home and write a book. I suppose one could walk around taking notes and photos first, and when you get to a general location, just look for an object that will cast a shadow and bury the treasure. However, the first way seems much easier.

Neither do I, but not for the reason you stated. Being at the "shadow caster" at the right time on a sunny day is the easiest way to know where the shadow is (presumably the end of the shadow), but it's not the only way, even in pre-historic 1981-82. I'm sure BP would have had a back-up plan in case the weather was not conducive to a dig at the appointed hour. Plus, he could mark the spot during the day (any day really), and come back under cover of darkness to do the actual burial.
The real problem with this theory isn't logistics. It's that it's superfluous to the puzzle as conceived and implemented by BP. Unless you think that in 1982, telling BP what the "shadow caster" was and how you got there wasn't enough to solicit a positive response from him. Which, by the way, contradicts the one sure example we have of someone(s) who actually got to that point.

IMO shadow is a valid clue to narrow down an area of interest ONLY where image or verse refers to one. For example verse 10, shadow of a gray giant, if you consider the Verrazzano Bridge tower as GG then 11 AM shadow would be on Staten Island, Wadsworth grounds area. It will not cast shadow on Brooklyn at 11. Have to adjust for daylight savings time?

Instead of trying to argue who has the key, or who is right or wrong, or even whether the shadow theory is correct or incorrect, why not start with the most simple of questions:
Why use whatever you choose to use as the shadow maker? The log? Why not a nearby pole? A nearby tree? That monument over there? This post over here? How about that railing? What about that column?

Better yet, why is that thing even in golden gate park?

When you can't even be certain about what park you are in (let alone city or V/I pairing), why is everyone even trying to pinpoint a casque site? Seems a little like the chicken before the egg thing to me.

why is everyone even trying to pinpoint a casque site?

Because they think that's the easiest Step. Which, to be fair, it was...in 1982. Or so it seems to me from the way BP interacted with the Chicago Group.

Why anyone believes BP put these things where he made you think he did is beyond me. We know that it's not true of Cleveland and Chicago, and most take it not to be true in Milwaukee either. I would proffer that if you are going to a spot based on your interpretation of the image and verse, you will definitely not find what you are looking for.

Now it's getting into the beating the dead horse zone. You can beat your head against the wall. What's the point? We are where we are. Gotta work with what we got.
