I know I'm right, I do not need validation. I have my reasons for keeping the solution for now. Mostly that While it seems I'm being some kind of coy dick, I don't think people would stop looking anyway, and don't like or want the media
Attention this hunt has gathered.

If Egbert missed the cask in Cleveland and left empty handed would you not consider it solved? I'm curious.

The only thing I can say is that you'll know when you solve it. Egbert can tell you the feeling - I don't have a theory for people to dissect, with a few "if you squints," I know the solution from start to end.

Well if you read back in the forums, Siskel considered Verse 8 solved at one point even after a casque wasn't found... I didn't feel the solution was correct and that led me to find all kinds of other clues in the verse and image...now I feel I am closer to finding that casque...but even with as much confidence I have on solving the verse...I will not be satisfied with it until I can verify it. Even if Siskel & Egbert decided to quit that day, I doubt THEY would have been satisfied either. Any solution is a theory until you are holding the treasure.

Then you see why I don't post the solution. It's more about the journey for many, and finding it yourself
Would still feel wonderful, even when it leads you to the same parking lot. :)

I want to go there even though it's gone just to walk the riddle and stand approximately where I know one was buried (final markers are all gone now). I can't go for a while though, hopefully in fall.

Well it's hard for me to comment on that...it's like saying I have a time machine but only I can use it. I hope you are right, in the same respect it would be nice to get other opinions.

You don't want the media coverage? Maybe its late or maybe I am just kind of cranky, but this "coy dick" attitude (and I am trying to use YOUR words here verbatim) seems to bypass pompous and head right towards irritating. The beauty of this site has ALWAYS been that is comes off a true shared endeavor. Most everyone seems to work well and play nice with others and information and theories are routinely shared in an altruistic way that makes this more than one treasure hunter pitted against all others. But this whole back and forth about "You KNOW WHERE IT IS START TO FINISH" and then telling people to private message you and NOT giving anything up other than extolling your own virtues and tooting your own horn, is in stark contradiction to what I have come to enjoy most in reading through the magnificent and varied thoughts of others shared in a communal setting for the good of all those involved. It has long been like one big team, with some having more to say than others, but no opinion ever trashed or treated too harshly. For the good of the site, if you think you have something then go and get it. But for the love of God and the good folks who have been pounding the pavement and digging underneath it for all these years, I urge you to lay off the "I know the answer and you don't" rhetoric. First time I have ever posted anything even close to negative on this site and its a direct result of your overconfidence that boarders on a sense of hubris you have not earned heretofore. I was there, part of a team that actually UNEARTHED a casque - and there are not a whole lot of us who can actually say that. And I just happened to be the in the right place at the right time, having done a LOT of research compiled with the help of a LOT of good people on this site (and the expertise of my friend Egbert). And I would NEVER take to this board with these sort of know-it-all rants that are being professed. It reminds me of when Daffy Duck is fighting with Bugs about finding the treasure in the cave and the genie shrinks him down to size and Bugs find him in a clam shell hugging a pearl shrieking "Its mine, all mine. You can't have it. I'm rich. I'm wealthy. Mine, mine mine." In other words, and tone of emails are REALLY hard to read, I am hoping yours is not meant to be as self important as you sound and that mine is interpreted more as friendly advice to "tone it down a few notches, PLEASE."

It's not self importance - I want to dig up a casque myself and there is always the slimmest slim skin sliiiiiiiiiiiiiim chance I'm off by a few feet & it's part of the 5x3 patch that isn't paved. That has to be obvious. Plus absolutely the media thing. Why would I post the solution (again, it's not a theory - at worst in off by what 10 feet? It's gone then if I can't get there) in public?

For what it's worth I've never had particularly good discussion on this board, I don't have tons of posts, but nobody had ever helped me with my theories. Some people are helpful via PM, but many are non responsive or rude. I've posted things and shown up to see evidence of prodding/digging. I've always assumed that we all keep our most promising theories either close to the vest, or in small groups. I think it's a bit haughty to come out here and pretend like this place is a magical fairyland of socialism. Why would I post my theory if I didn't need feedback on it? Did my solve not take work as well? Does telling me how much work you did diminish mine?

Have you not noticed the uptick in activity here? I am not making up this media thing - there are more people here now than ever before. I liked the idea of this hunt as a group of somewhat weirdos trying to solve an old puzzle, not a Kickstarter and a guy who reads like MensHumor.com making a film. I want a casque on my mantel, that's my
Only goal.

Back on topic....

Do we feel that 421T's theory holds water or not... there are key visual confirmations there correct? Is it a matter of the right bench or???

421's Boston theory should be discussed more in the V3/I11 threads. It was nice of him to share it and it helped me see there are other ways of looking/finding a prospective solution.

The only thing I've liked in this image 12 discussion is the likeness to the Statue of Liberty. The visual compelling features suggest there's a window, a clock, maybe a pier clock, a Russian Orthodox church shape and a flying seabird involved. I believe V9 goes with it for a link to San Juan Island in Washington. I've manufactured most of my points of interest based on faulty premises. Oddly, that doesn't cause me to reject the location entirely. The more I read the book and lay attention to some more literal targets, the closer I think I'm getting to a place where I feel confident enough to explore in person or hopefully share with someone who wouldn't mind taking a closer look.

I guess I'll see if I can still get my gem.

If it's unrecoverable then no one can steal it from you. If it's unrecoverable then there's no way to ever know if you're correct. EVER. So I don't understand your reasoning for not sharing. It doesn't make sense. So I'm gonna go ahead and call bs on this one. But feel free to prove me wrong.

Previously I was looking at the water at the bottom of the image...
wk wrote:The location is definitely in Prospect Park because the contour lines on this topo map match the swirling water at the bottom of image 12. You need to turn the book clockwise 90 degrees to compare it.

Now I am turning my attention to the surf part of the waves.
maltedfalcon wrote:Prospect Park sounds great. How does the verse play out to get you to the dig spot.

This view of the waterfall shows some hidden paths nearby that might be a possibility.

But more importantly I believe the white spots depicting the surf in the image might be the location of nearby trees. I am basing this theory on the leaflet of Elizabethan Gardens which shows trees that match the stars in image 3.

This is how I see image 12 so far (conjoined with verse 10):

> Lower left corner pictogram in the 'stained glass' is the United Nations. This lines up to the "grey giant" in verse 10.
> In the folds of her dress that hang down is a lion's face – which I would place as one of the lions flanking the New York Public Library.
> The head of the seagull is a Chrysler Building eagle. It's not exact, but close.

So far all of these are in the same general vicinity: East 40-44th Street, east of 5th avenue.

What throws me off:

> The "statue of liberty" face. If this is the Statue of Liberty we are now in lower manhattan, which combined with the seagull puts us in a very different location than midtown.
> The seagull – that suggests being close to the water – that would make the "path" from verse 10 perhaps a riverwalk?
> The Russian or Greek Orthodox Cathedral – I was certain this was St Nicholas on E 97th street. But in the context of the other landmarks it doesn't add up logistically.
> If the "grey giant" is the United Nations –  in its shadow places the "UN campus" and promendade into question. If so this access has been closed to public for some time and post-9/11 will probably not return anytime soon. Does anyone know if this area was accessible when the book was written? That is hard information to come by.

a little on verse 10:
> "the grey giant" might be the UN but it might be the old New York TImes building (W43rd, NY TImes aka the Grey Lady)
> "the sign nearby speaks of Indies native" is Alexander Hamilton. Buried at Trinity Church in lower Manhattan. But signs of Hamilton are all over NY. One perplexing coincidence is between the Hamilton Grange (AH's historic home, located in St Nicholas park on the upper west side) and whether the outline of the russian/greek orthodox church is in fact St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.
