Math IS involved since a math sign is in the verse 10.

Per @Choice's request, I'm posting some theory stuff for NYC.

Everyone who knows me on this hunt, knows I've been in Prospect Park forever for many, many reasons. However, I do have a few other spots. It would shock me if the casque was anywhere other than Brooklyn. Not only is there evidence in the back of the book (yeah, whatever you believe about it is fine) but there is also evidence in the front of the book. I will deal more with posting about page 10 later (the water theory) but, for now, it's a good idea for all of us to work backwards.

How did you determine your Isle of B? Did you get lucky? Did you try to make it work? Perhaps we need to draw lines on the map from possible Isles of B from North to South and see if any of the places they intersect are plausible.

There's a reason that line is the last line of the verse. You have to be at the dig site to see it.
Look down and see simple roots in rhapsodic man's soil or gaze north toward the isle of B.
First part is easy. It describes a planter. You're at the dig site, look down at soil with tree roots.
Second part uses wordplay. Or gaze north toward the isle of B.
Gaze, stare, stair. There are stairs at the place.
North, up. Look up.
Isle, Aisle.
B, as in Milwaukee, B is 5th element, middle initial of Wolcott. Also, 5 is V in Roman. Peace.
So, Aisle of 5. 5 lines/aisles make that feature. Notice the pinch in the middle circled in yellow. Presented in the painting right above the planter in red box.
The Belt also represents Queensboro bridge with the sash being Blackwell Island.
Also, that wall is Mission of Bhutan. Planter is in Bunche Park.
So many B's.

@Choice, I do find your theory interesting. Not sure I've ever considered this bridge...........not sure I should? I do like that there's a smaller 'arm' in the area but think the Rhapsodic Man idea seems overly complicated. When I was there last--4 years ago, maybe less, I didn't think the area around the UN was very interesting and I know it was less so in 1980. I shall check in out again when I return.

You still haven't posted anything specific about your spot Karleen. What is your B.? What is 2 X hour?
A conventional, linear thinking, i.e. drawing a line south from Lib. isle only gets you to the middle of Verrazzano Bridge. Get your jackhammer!
Also, what verse line makes you think it's in Brooklyn? Painting shows both Long Island and Manhattan in arms.
The usage of British spelling of grey + isle of B. may be hints to "Isle of Man", short for Isle of Manhattan. "Natives" for Manhattan purchase.
Did Byron choose "twice the hour" as just a random number that puts you in the middle of a field or there was something at the site that matched that number?
In Chicago he chose "End of 10 X 13" because there were 10 X 13 trees (apparently), so end of 10 X 13 foot rectangle would make sense (...come in twos).
So, here in NYC site, there must be something that fits that number and more. Not a random number.

I have alternate endings to my "solve"!
Another way of looking at it is, if use the painting as a map of the location, then above the planter (image above) or north (up) in the painting is the Blackwell's Island.
Yet, another way of looking at the location is, gaze, stare, stairs north, up (top of 42 steps) you'll have the view of UN building, toward Blackwell's Island.

In the Bay Ridge area I use Bedloe's and in central/southern Brooklyn there's Belmont or (and this will make sense once I have time to redo my water theory video) the Bailey Fountain because it is actually an island. Several friends like the 'aisle' of Broadway and there's an alley or something in Coney that people like but I've never gotten into Coney because that area was super rough in the late 70s/early 80s.
